frequently asked questions
ECU firmware is grouped in Baseline, RacePack or Spinning products. The firmware and harnesses differ with these packages and must be grouped correctly.
Baseline package
This is the most basic form of the ECU. This is a budget ECU and is meant to run the engine properly with the lowest price possible to the customer. It does not have luxuries like idle control, Lamba, Launch control etc. It does have the basic engine limiters for engine protection. Harnesses contains minimum wires.
RacePack package
This is mostly a firmware upgrade that opens all the other features for racing and commercial cars. It can be done over the Internet and is sold separately. Here launch control Lambda RapidFire etc. are included. As long as the hardware has the capability for it. Hardware is the same as Baseline. Harnesses contains maximum wires.
Spinning Package
This package is like baseline but contains all the relevant settings for spinning. Features like Dual Map, RapidFire, Launch retard, Variable Engine Limiter etc. It does not contain luxury features like Lambda control or Idle Control Launch Retard etc. Hardware contains the minimum components to do all the tasks. Harnesses contains the minimum wires. A TuneBox is included in this package. This package is also sold at the lowest price possible. It does not have a RacePack upgrade.
This ECU must be at the lowest price to the public and will have the min features required to run the engine fuel and timing perfectly. There will be a Map sensor and TPS sensor input to control fuel and spark. It will control injectors in Split-Sequential mode and spark in Wasted-Spark mode. It will have water- and air temperature compensation with the normal protection limiters. It may have an optional altitude sensor installed and will have the normal Relay and RPM outputs. It will have 1 or 2 GP outputs available for fan control. Tuning will be nearly the full package but a few complicated features like Expert modes etc. will be disabled. There will be no Idle control or Lambda control available. For lowest price the baseline harness will also have the min wires installed. As you can see this ecu was intended as a budget ecu but must still have performance and fuel consumption.
This added package will change the baseline ECU to an Ultimate ECU. Here added features may be Lambda, Tuning Pot, Dual Map switch, RapidFire switch, Idle solenoids, VVT solenoids, Launch Control, Delay Launch, RapidFire, Anti-Lag, Sound effect Limiters etc. Everything that the specific hardware is capable of. The harness will also be different to cater for all the extra connections. Should you plan to upgrade later to the RacePack, it is recommended to take this harness instead. As you can see this package brings out the full potential of the ECU.
This is a baseline ecu with added features that is attractive to spinning customers. Price is sensitive in this market. Only required sensors and features are included to get the product to do what it has to. It will do fuel and spark perfectly with good performance and consumption. It will have all the engine protection to prevent engine damage as good as possible. The tuner has one input for either a TPS or MAP sensor depending on his tuning preference. It will have water- and air temperature compensation with the normal protection limiters. It may have an optional altitude sensor installed and will have the normal Relay and RPM outputs. It will have 1 or 2 GP outputs available for fan- or VVT cam control. It will come standard with the TuneBox for sound effects and adjustable engine limiter. Dual Map is also standard on this version. Timing may be retarded with the Launch as far as 30 degrees after TDC for flame effects. This is all about bragging rights. This product will only come in the crank gear versions like 60-2, 36-1 or 36-2. As you can see this is a dedicated ECU for Spinning only and cannot be converted to a road going vehicle where idle control or Lambda control is required.
It comes with a TuneBox that has a POT and a push button included. It is connected to the comms port. The POT is used to change the RPM limiter and the button is used to change RapidFire frequencies. This will allow the driver to play with the limiter’s operation to create variable sound effects.
2. It has dual map capabilities and the crank input is used for the dual map switch. This means when the driver is in spin mode, the ECU is set up for performance and engine protection in map 1. When he puts it in barging mode map 2, he can then play with the variable engine limiter and RapidFire and activate launch features. That will retard timing and put extra fuel to create flames and rhythmic pops and bangs on the exhaust.
3. On this firmware there may be extra settings that a customer can use to create the best sound effects possible. There are also lots of other features in planning as they get tested and are successful.
Lambda control is omitted. The sensors will anyway not last during rich launch actions.
Idle control. This feature is usually difficult and people make the throttle fixed anyway. For cold starting you can enrich the fuel graph and increase timing which will help the idling.
Anti-Lag. This is a track feature for racing cars.
Launch delay. This is a drag race feature.
Wiring that is used for these features will also be omitted.
Some of the harnesses is the same as Spitronics harnesses. No use to invent new numbers that people are familiar with. The wire colors are standard as far as possible. Harnesses com in three categories:
Universal Harnesses – This is harnesses that comes in a 2-meter length and the installer will cut and wire them with other wires that he must supply to connect all the components to the ECU. One harness fit all, depending on the harness number. Fuses and relays are included. No engine connectors are included.
Wire & Play harnesses – These harnesses are already made according to length required for that specific engine. Power wires are grouped to the injector and coil wires to make installation easy. The customer does not require extra wires. Fuses and relays are included. No engine connectors are included.
Plug & Play harnesses – these are the same as Wire & Play except engine connectors are included with the harness. Only popular engine types will be made like this. Prices will follow when stock arrives.
An optional altitude sensor can be installed on the PC Board. This will help compensate TPS vs RPM tunes in different cities automatically.
This is an LCD display that connects with the ECU and display vital statistics of sensors like RPM, Water and Air Temperature, POT and TPS Sensor, Map Sensor and Lambda Sensor.
To keep prices low to the expert dealer, Support is not included in the selling price. Why pay for it if you don’t need it. Let the beginner pay for the telephonic support if he is not willing to read the extensive manuals and learn.
